Kennett River Riparian Zone Revegetation

Location: Riverbank below Hazel Court

The start of a progressive journey to preserve and restore the riparian zone of our beloved river.

This is the first of many initiatives that will aim to increase biodiversity, native habitat and improve our waterways. Taking the citizen science approach, this work is supported by an ongoing community monitoring program of plant health, weed management and wildlife observation.

The Kennett Community Action Group has funded 555 plants for this initiative. They are indigenous to the area, selected by GORCAPA and propagated by the Southern Otway Landcare Network (SOLN).

Sea Spurge Working Bee + Campaign Launch

Location: KR Foreshore (opposite entry to precinct)

The Wye to Wongarra Landcare Group are hosting a working bee on the KR foreshore to continue the efforts to remove Sea Spurge.

To further support momentum on raising awareness of Sea Spurge in our region, a joint initiative has been created with the Wye to Wongarra Landcare Group, Kennett Community Action Group and GORCAPA, aiming to create continued awareness and community participation to break the cycle of Sea Spurge infestations, and improve the health of our dunes for both native flora and wildlife to flourish.

As a part of this working bee, we will be unveiling a new Purge the Spurge - Strive for Five campaign encouraging all beachgoers to remove 5 plants (or more) and place them in a bespoke bin, which GORCAPA will regularly dispose of.
