Who we are

We are leading the effort to protect and preserve our slice of the Otways. We have been at the forefront of recent improvements within our community, listening to residents and campers - proactively engaging agencies and getting things done.

Our mission

The Kennett Community Action Group Inc has been formed in response to urgent community needs.

This community led group will prioritise initiatives to fulfil our mission of preserving and protecting Kennett River for future generations to come.

We are a collective of like-minded-people, dedicated to making a difference through co-ordinated grass roots initiatives that harness the balance of enjoyment, conservation and sense of pride within our community.

Our shared goal, as joint representatives, is to lead our group as a proactive, influential voice for positive change - championing the protection of the environment and well-being of all who call Kennett River home, whether it be full time, part time, semi-permanent, or as campers.

Our core values

Respect: we respect each other, and the traditional owners’ land on which we reside. We create a space where you are welcome and ideas are encouraged and celebrated.

Innovation: we listen, respond and problem solve. We strive to be original and look to be leaders.

Connection: we all contribute something, we inspire others and take pride in this extraordinary place.

Community: we foster trust, share knowledge and openly communicate in all of our interactions.

Our purpose

Community engagement To continue to be a proactive, influential voice for positive change - championing the protection of the environs and well-being of all who call Kennett River home. We all contribute something and take pride in this extraordinary place.

Advocacy and collaboration To openly communicate with local agencies, traditional owners and other like-minded community groups interested in solution based approaches to protect and preserve Kennett River’s unique environment, wildlife and the well-being of its people by listening and responding to the concerns of the community.

Environmental conservation To implement grass roots initiatives to restore and regenerate the land, including wildlife protection measures. This is best achieved by always asking ourselves what Kennett River will look like in 2, 5 and 10 years from now?

Sustainable tourism To advocate for responsible tourism practices, in every corner of our community, to minimise the impacts on the environs and our community. Foresight is critical in all discussions and decisions being made - how will decisions made now, impact our future?

Education and awareness By listening to our community, we aim to raise awareness and problem solve as we go. Where there is a need, we will equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to make informed decisions and feel empowered.
